Taxpayers Can File and Pay 2022 AITR Anywhere in the Philippines
Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Commissioner Romeo D. Lumagui, Jr. announced that taxpayers can file and pay their Annual Income Tax Return (AITR) anywhere to provide optimal services.
The Revenue Memorandum Circular (RMC) No. 32-2023 allows taxpayers to file their 2022 AITR and pay any relevant fees anywhere on or before April 17, 2023. This aims to align the government’s agenda to provide excellent taxpayer service.
Lumagui discussed, “I wanted to improve the services that we offer to the taxpaying public. My ultimate goal here is to provide each one of us the luxury of filing and paying our correct taxes at our most convenient time and place without any penalties involved. I am encouraging everyone, avoid the rush! File and pay as early as now before the April 17 deadline.”
Lumagui also reminded the public to not use “ghost receipts” when filing their tax returns. Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) involved in the use of such receipts can be charged with license revocation and imprisonment.
In addition, Lumagui prompted the public to closely inspect any unlawful schemes their CPAs might use to illegally lessen their taxes. Lumagui added that the buyers of ghost receipts will be audited and exposed to imprisonment through tax evasion.
The RMC also assists taxpayers in different situations. For instance, taxpayers who are instructed to use the BIR’s Electronic Filing and Payment System (eFPS) must electronically file their AITRs or pay the required fees through their enrolled banks.
However, mandated taxpayers can only use eBIRForms in filing their AITR for limited reasons. These reasons include being currently enrolled for eFPS and the bank and if eFPS forms or services are unavailable.
Lumagui also asked taxpayers to assist the BIR in raising ₱2.6 trillion in 2023. Lumagui cited that the funds will be used for several government projects for nation-building.
